How Far Is Kerem HaTeimanim From the Beach? Walking Distances in Tel Aviv
Kerem HaTeimanim is roughly 600 meters — about a 7-minute walk — from Banana Beach, the nearest stretch of Tel Aviv's seafront. It is one of the closest residential neighborhoods to the Mediterranean in central Tel Aviv, which is a large part of why people choose to stay here. This guide gives you the exact walking distances from the Yemenite Quarter to the beach and the other places you'll actually want to reach on foot.
Walking Distances From Kerem HaTeimanim at a Glance
The neighborhood sits between Carmel Market and the sea, so almost everything that matters is within a ten-minute walk. Distances below are measured from Hakovshim Street, the quiet main street at the center of the quarter where Or Hakerem operates.
| Destination | Distance | Walking time |
|---|---|---|
| Banana Beach (nearest beach) | ~600 m | ~7 minutes |
| The seafront promenade (tayelet) | ~550 m | ~6–7 minutes |
| Carmel Market (Shuk HaCarmel) | ~400 m | ~5 minutes |
| Nachalat Binyamin pedestrian street | ~450 m | ~6 minutes |
| Gordon Beach (north) | ~1.7 km | ~20 minutes |
| Old Jaffa (south, along the sea) | ~2.5 km | ~30 minutes |
Is Kerem HaTeimanim Walkable to the Beach?
Yes — comfortably. You can leave your apartment, walk west through the quarter's narrow lanes, cross HaYarkon Street, and be standing on the sand in well under ten minutes. There is no need for a car, a bus, or a bike to reach the water. The route is flat the entire way, which is unusual for a Mediterranean city, and it's pleasant on foot at any time of day.
This is what makes the Yemenite Quarter different from much of Tel Aviv. The big hotel cluster sits directly on HaYarkon Street, but staying there means paying hotel prices for a single room. Kerem HaTeimanim gives you the same beach proximity from a real neighborhood — and a full apartment — a few hundred meters back from the seafront.
What's at the Beach End
Banana Beach is the closest beach and the most relaxed. It is less developed than the northern beaches, popular with locals and longer-stay visitors, and quieter than the hotel-strip sand further up the coast. You can rent a sun lounger, buy a fresh coconut from a cart, or simply sit on the sand for free.
From Banana Beach, the promenade connects north toward Gordon and Frishman beaches and south toward Jaffa, so once you reach the water you can walk the coast in either direction for as long as you like.
What's in the Other Direction
Walk east instead of west and you reach Carmel Market in about five minutes — fresh produce, spices, street food, and juice stands. Just beside it, Nachalat Binyamin holds an arts-and-crafts market on Tuesdays and Fridays.
